Italian Archaeologists Find the Real Mona Lisa

Much attention has been paid to Mona Lisa's smile throughout the years, but this week her skeleton is winding up in the spotlight. Italian archaeologists announced Tuesday they found the skeleton of Lisa Gherardini, believed to be the model for Leonardo's masterpiece, which currently hangs in The Louvre in Paris. Found near the convent of Sant'Orsola in Florence, the bones will be sent to the Department for the Conservation of Cultural Property for an examination.

Well, that is an interesting find. I do have to wonder if the remains they found do indeed belong to Lisa Gherardini or not. To be honest, I don't consider the act of finding her remains to be sacrilegious per se, as long as her remains are treated respectfully. Lady Natalia Guicciardini Strozzi does make a good point, though, that finding the body does nothing to change the allure of Leonardo's painting. It would be just as timeless if the body was never found.

I guess it's kinda interesting that they found her body, but I really hope they don't try to put it on display. It would take away from the magic of Leonardo's painting.

Agreed; if they want to do a little study, fine, have at it, but let Ms. Gherardini lie in peace afterwards, don't put her out for display like some kind of freak show.
