Nah, sometimes you have to trick the people you know every once in a while. Have to remind people you're a prankster at heart, or they might forget. Ran is a kitsune, after all, and they are tricksters. I'm sure Kogasa didn't mind helping out in the end, just didn't like being surprised, since she's supposed to be the one surprising others, not the other way around.
